This month we are going to be looking at how we can go about improving our sleeping patterns and some ways to help us achieve better quality, more peaceful sleep.
For so many of us, getting quality sleep and waking up feeling rested and refreshed can be a real challenge in our fast-paced modern lives. Our days are so packed and our schedules can become so chaotic that often times it can be difficult to fall asleep when we do finally get into bed and lay our heads down.
There are many small things we can do to aid in achieving better sleep, which we will discuss, but a good starting point is to try introduce some sort of routine before bed. Now this doesn’t mean going to sleep at the same time every night, but rather by trying to introduce some consistency into our pre sleep activities.
Routine is a helpful way for our minds to switch off and unwind. For some that could be spending a few minutes reading, writing in a journal or maybe having a playlist of calming songs to listen to before going to sleep. This will help your mind realize that it’s getting closer to your bedtime and trigger it to start to unwind and slow down. Getting straight into bed from a place of busyness will leave your mind running with thoughts and concerns.
We find that it is really beneficial to help your mind “cool down” after a busy day in much the same way that we do “cool down” exercises after finishing off with an intense workout. Your day is an intense mental workout and giving your mind some time to “cool off” in a routine manner is a really easy and helpful first step toward unlocking a quality night’s sleep.
We encourage you to find a relaxing routine and do it before heading to sleep. Your nights will be more peaceful and your days energised.
